Start ... and Finish

So, a friend of mine wanted a unique gift to give her niece who'd had a baby and I suggested we make a quilt.  She bought the fabric.

 Dots and stripes with dots.

Orange, blue and white. (Detroit Tiger colors.)

the sashing (white tiger or maybe zebra stripes .. )

The backing ..
The quilt top pieced.  I used this pattern for Stacked Coins Baby Quilt from Crazy Mom Quilts.

The binding

The backing was fleece which, if I use it for backing again, I will do the binding differently. I did my normal sewing the binding to the front and then folded over to the back and then I zigzagged around from the back and then flipped it over and zigzagged on the front.  I didn't like the way it looked but didn't want to rip it out and start over.  Just laziness.

Next time, I'll sew 1/4 inch from the edge and attach the binding from the back.  then I'll do one zigzag to attach it to the front.  Maybe I won't use fleece for backing again ...

You need outside pictures I couldn't even tell that was zebra. Don't you live in sunny California?

That's a really pretty, unique quilt.

I find fleece really tricky to work with - but if you hand bind - the stitches are all really well hidden. Congratulations on the finish ! (and so quickly too!!) I love stacked coin quilts - it was one of the first patterns I made when I started quilting because they always look great!
