Cocktail Wednesday

This week's cocktail was French 75.  According to wikipedia, the drink got its name because it was said to have such a kick that it felt like being shelled with the French 75mm field gun.

Anyway, I got the recipe from here.

Ingredients:

  • gin, 1 oz
  • fresh squeezed lemon juice, .5 oz
  • simple syrup, .5 oz
  • champagne/sparkling wine, 3 oz
  • lemon garnish
When I got home from work, I prepared the simple syrup (equal parts sugar and water, brought to a boil and then let cool), and then juiced the lemons.  I used five and had enough for 9 drinks with some lemon juice left over.

Very nice drink, a little potent, but good.  We all enjoyed it.

Next week we're going to make the piña colada.  I've never had one and am hoping that I'll like it.

I'll leave you with this:

Well ...this is still on my must try list. I unexpectedly had to work late then forgot an appointment that didn't see me get home until after 8. By the time I'd had dinner - I fell asleep on the lounge without a skerrick of alcohol having touched my lips.

I even went out at lunchtime and bought a lemon in preparation!
