Favorite Things Friday

I feel like I'm cheating .. I wrote this post last week so I didn't have to come up with a new one this week.  Hop on over to Quilting in My Pyjamas to see what everyone else's favorites are ..

My favorite this week is playing games -- and in particular, card games.  Some of my favorite card games are:  pitch, pinochle, cribbage, spades, and hearts (and probably tons more but I can't think of any right now).  And then when  it comes to computers, I like hearts and spider solitaire.  Oh, and Texas Hold Em.

When we camp, we play cards at night by lantern light.  Actually, whenever the whole family gets together, we like to play games.

When I was first dating my husband, I can remember going to his parents' house and watching his family play pitch.  I had never played pitch before, but I watched for a while and had the basic idea of how to play.  I had a ton of strategy to learn, but I could play -- of course my #1 son, thinks I still have a lot of strategy to learn (he refuses to be my partner).

And pinochle (double deck only).  Just the best card game ever.  It's hard to find other couples to play cards with .. guess that's why we had to teach our kids how to play.

All of my kids know how to play (both pitch and pinochle ) -- at least I think they do.  I know the four older ones do .. not so sure about the youngest.  Anyway, it's great fun when we're all together.   (We also play board games like Taboo, Cranium, and the old favorite, Trivial Pursuit -- ooh, and I almost forgot Pit).

My parents used to host card games what seems like every Friday night. I can remember the irritated look my Dad would give me when I would not-so-quietly whisper, "Whatcha gonna do with that Red King, Daddy?" ☺

Alas, I don't play cards. My kids and DH love too, though. They play a lot of poker, chips and all. Fabulous Favourite! Thanks for sharing. Happy FTF! ☺

I love card games and other games except Monopoly. ( I have one cutthroat son who used to make Monopoly unbearable for the rest of us.) We always played games and many of our friendships are with people who play cards. This is a great post, thanks for sharing.

We play crib, something called bastard switchem (which is kinda like uno but with a standard deck of cards) and kanasta. On the computer I like hearts (which when played in the real world we call black bitch, or black witch if the kiddies are about) because I can pretend I'm playing real people, and give them names and personalities - when I play solitaire of something like that I'm only concerned with beating the computer.

My folks used to play a lot of cards. I think it's terrific that you made sure that your kids could play games as a family activity. What a great idea for camping too!

Mr. P loves cards. Card games seem to be something of a mental block for me. I can never recall the rules and Im hopeless about strategy (except for Uno - Im a Uno whizz)

Board games are another matter- I love board games!

Thanks for dropping by FTF this week Thea. I always look forward to your posts.

My mom's family played cards at family get togethers. Uno was a family favorite. Lots of great memories there. Sounds like for you too. Great post!

When I was in my 20s we used to get together and play card games. 500 was one of them, I can't for the life of me remember what the others were. We also used to play Uno a lot, especially when we went camping. I very rarely play cards these days. I have taught Bitchypoo to play Mah Jong and we used to play with my mum and dad fairly regularly, although we haven't played in awhile.
I'm going to show my ignorance here and don't know how to play pitch or pinochle. In fact I've never heard of pitch, I think I've heard of pinochle from tv programmes.
