My favorite this week is something that I hear almost every morning.
The pitter patter of little feet. It is amazing to me how kids don't walk anywhere, they run. They run from the living room to the bedroom, from the bedroom to the bathroom, from the bathroom to the kitchen, and then back to the living room and so on and so on and so on. They have one speed.
I think if I ran like that, I would be as skinny as a rail, but it wouldn't be the pitter patter of little feet. :). More like thunk thunk thunk.
So hop on over to Quilting In My Pyjamas and check out what others are claiming as their favorites or, better yet, link up and share yours.

Another birthday ..
You know you're getting old when your youngest child turns 23. Today was my YD's birthday. We began the weekend with a BBQ and then today had a family dinner and dessert at home.
First the BBQ .. lots of friends from college and high school. and family too. All were there except for my OD who is in Los Angeles ..
and then today at home for the birthday dinner and cake
All in all a good day though I had trouble finding the chicken wings for her dinner and then when I did, I didn't buy enough. The dessert was delicious and really easy to make.

The chef ..
The proud papa!
The proud brother ..

Playing cranium .. (cousin, OS's girlfriend, OS, and MS)
Grandpa joining in on the birthday shot toast ..

Clever titles
I wish I could come up with clever titles. I mean the Mentalist has red in every title. CSI has fun titles, for example, "Trends with Benefits", "Malice in Wonderland". and then there's Castle, "One Life to Lose". Why can't I come up with something even slightly clever?
Here are some pictures of the little Girl Quilt I finished this past week, as well as the fleece blanket my YD and I tied for the same little girl. I really hope she likes it.

Favorite Things Friday
My favorite this week, other than linking up with everyone else and seeing what everybody has been up to, is popcorn. Kate reminded me of this when she posted about spring break.
I love, love, love popcorn. When we go to the movies, I can eat a whole large bag by myself. I usually have to share but I could eat it all myself. Going to the movies wouldn't be the same without popcorn, and even though it costs as much as the movie, I have to have it. I don't feel like I've been to the movies without it.
I love kettle corn, cheesy popcorn. microwave popcorn, bagged popcorn, popcorn cooked in oil, popcorn from a hot air popper. I don't care how it's made -- I love popcorn. My grandfather used to pop it in old bacon grease -- that was divine.
I love kettle corn from Popcorn, Indiana. but quite honestly, I just love popcorn.

March Madness
Okay, not really, but I had to have a title. Lots of football talk at our house not basketball .. now that we know that Peyton is going to Denver -- what happens to Tebow?? such a dilemma.
However, it's not mine. I've been working on the GQ*. Here it is -- before quilting.

15 Minute Challenge - Week 10
Here's my report for this week's sewing.
Tuesday - quilted Raiders Quilt
Wednesday - finished quilting Raiders Quilt
Thursday - trimmed Raiders quilt; made binding; sewed binding
Friday - finished hand sewing binding
Saturday - nothing (washed and dried Raiders Quilt)
Sunday - worked on design for child-sized quilt
Monday - cut and sewed blocks for csq
I need to come up with a name for this new quilt I'm working on. The front will be pieced with flannel and the back will be a solid minkee sort of fabric. Here are the fabrics for the quilt -- two yards of each.

Sunday Football
So football season is over until fall (American football, that is). In my house, however, somehow they still seem to talk about it year round. Either complaining commenting on the previous season or looking forward to the upcoming season. Talking about who has or has not left the team either voluntarily or otherwise. And it seems every week, that there is something on the news about one or more of the teams the various members of my family follow. So, anyway, my YS asked me to make him a quilt of his favorite team. He purchased the fabric and batting for it and I posted my plan previously, and here it is finished.
I looks pretty much like the plan. I apologize for not taking a very good picture. Also, I didn't have the striped fabric for the binding, but got some black/grey polka dotted fabric instead.
Here's the back. I used fleece for the backing. It's soft but I don't know how it will hold up.
My next project is either a duvet cover for my YD or a quilt for the daughter of a friend who has supplied me with tons of fabric. I'll probably go with the small quilt -- may even do a tied fleece to go along with it since she bought fleece as well. We'll see.

Favorite Things Friday; Blogiversary
I'm having a difficult time coming up with a favorite this week .. It's 11:18 p.m. and I still can't come up with anything.
Today is my five year blogiversary. if i were Sara, I would have over 1500 posts, but since I'm me I just have over 400. Hard to believe I've been at this for five years.
Had a long week today and i am just so tired. I think my favorite, right now, is sleep.
I'll check back tomorrow when I don't need so much sleep.
Cheers!

to verify or not to verify
I've been reading lots of blog complaints about blogger's word verification. I find the double word entry really annoying -- though it doesn't seem to reject whatever I type in. Anyhow, I decided to remove word verification and to turn comment moderation back on. I'll try this for a bit and see how it goes.
Oh, is today Wednesday? I'll have to find a picture to post.

Sara's Bird Quilt
When my mom was sick, my cousin Sara (and her husband) put us up in her house on many many occasions. It didn't matter what time we got in. It didn't matter how long we needed to stay. She visited with us. She visited with my mom. She fed us. She talked to us. She bathed us. She was very hospitable and loving and caring. She made us feel welcome. She made it so we could do what we needed to do.
Anyway, as a thank you, my niece Katie and I decided that we should make her a quilt. Katie had some fabric that used to be my mother's which we decided to use as our focus fabric. Katie bought some owl fabric and some peacock fabric that coordinated well. We went to Ikea and bought some orange fabric. And Katie found a fat quarter in my so-called stash that matched, as well. Katie found a pattern she liked on the internet and we winged it from there.
Basting.
Fresh out of the dryer.
The back. The brown fabric in the lower righthand corner is the focus fabric.
The front.
So, later this week, I will take it to the post office and send it to Sara. When Katie posts pictures, I'll provide a link -- her camera is loads better.
Have a great weekend!

Favorite Things Friday
My favorite this week is postcards. When I was a little girl, I used to collect them (of course, as a little girl, I collected just about everything, acorns, piggy banks, notebooks, bus numbers, etc.). I still remember the album I had with a postcard from my cousin Stephen from Africa .. don't have that postcard or any of the other ones now (I don't think anyway). But this past fall, my sister and her daughter went to Europe and they sent me postcards from their trip. (Oops, there's another postcard in the picture from St. Louis -- still from my sister, but not from the Europe trip.)
Maybe one day I'll go to Europe and send them postcards!
Check out other favorites at QIMP and link up with one of your favorites too!
